The Bridge 020 Replacement Project at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas replaced an existing timber bridge over Big Creek. The existing timber bridge had structural load capacity limitations and had performed beyond its service life. The project consisted of demolishing the existing timber bridge and constructing a new bridge with cast-in-place concrete abutments, center support pier, and a two (2) span precast concrete bridge deck, 62 feet in overall length. The existing cut rock creek bank stabilization from the original timber bridge was retained to minimize erosion. Hawkins-Weir Engineers provided project design, construction observation, and construction management services for the project, and closely coordinated these activities with the Military Department of Arkansas and the Arkansas Division of Building Authority.
