In an effort to provide area youth with an opportunity to get outside, exercise, and improve the quality of life in Mulberry, Arkansas the City pursued funding from the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism through their Outdoor Recreation and Trails for Life grant programs for a new City Park. The City was awarded a 50/50 matching grant and Hawkins-Weir Engineers, Inc. (HW) was retained to develop a City Park Master Plan and to prepare construction plans and specifications for the first phase of the City Park. The City included the community in the design process by polling its citizens as to what types of features they most desired. After hearing out the community and developing the park master plan, the City decided to first pursue the construction of water and wastewater utilities to provide service to a restroom facility, an access drive and gravel parking lot, playground equipment, a pavilion, and a basketball court. HW provided project design services and provided support to the City during the procurement of Park features and coordinated the erection of the improvements with the contractors preparing the site. The community has been very involved in the development of the new City Park with many additional features being added by volunteers with donated materials.
